The 2023 Nissan Z is a modern interpretation of a classic Japanese sports car, offering driving enthusiasts an affordable option for speed and power. Drawing inspiration from the original 240Z, the new Z combines design elements from its predecessors with modern technology and performance.
Design and Interior
The exterior design of the 2023 Nissan Z evokes the first models from 1970, with LED headlamps and taillamps, and a premium paint scheme called Passion Red TriCoat. The interior features seating for two people, a big 9-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery with faux suede inserts, aluminum performance pedals, power adjustable heated seats, and automatic climate control. However, storage space is minimal behind the seats.
Power and Performance
Under the hood, the Nissan Z is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, delivering 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. This engine boosts output by roughly 70 ponies compared to the naturally aspirated six-cylinder and offers an extra 80 lb-ft of torque. The Z is available in two trims: Sport and Performance, with the latter offering additional features such as larger brakes, limited-slip differential, and sport-tuned suspension.
Transmission and Driving Experience
Both 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmissions are available for the new Z. The 2023 Nissan Z provides respectable levels of feedback through a stiffer platform, making it fully engaging on roads both narrow and twisty. The steering is responsive, and the brakes are strong, creating a fun and engaging driving experience. The Z also features adjustable drive modes, including a Sport+ mode that sharpens throttle response and stiffens the suspension.
Technology and Safety
The 2023 Nissan Z comes with an 8-inch or 9-inch infotainment touchscreen that is nicely integrated into the dash. Safety and driver assistance technologies include adaptive cruise, forward collision mitigation, rear-view camera, blind spot monitor, and traction and stability control. With launch control, the new Z achieves a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds and 12.9 seconds for the quarter mile.
