Hyundai wait times grow in Australia
Contrary to the predictions made earlier this year, the wait times on new Hyundai vehicles in Australia are on the rise as some computer-chip heavy luxury features continue to cause bottlenecks in production.
According to the most recent information given to Hyundai dealers, the wait times for new orders are above 3 months, while the wait times for more than half of the orders are above 6 months. Lastly, the i30N hot hatch model lists a wait time of over 12 months.
Additionally, a bulletin issued to Hyundai dealers in June predicted that constraints in supply would ease up in the latter part of the year 2022. However, the wait times have instead increased, raising the wait times for models from 3 months to 6 months.
The bulletin, also issued on social media, stated that the new i30N models would require a wait time of more than 12 months while already made orders- their exact number is unclear- would take 6 to 12 months to arrive.
The smaller Hyundai i20 N’s order books were closed in July after wait times of one to two years. According to the most recent information provided to dealers, current orders will take longer than 12 months to arrive.
In the meantime, Kona Electric small SUV orders and the Tucson mid-size family SUV (1.6ltre turbo-petrol version) wait times have been listed at 9 months or more.
Other models with wait times of more than 6 months are Venue city SUV, both the 2.0 liter and petrol Tucson, the petrol-powered Kona small SUV (WITHOUT THE PERFORMANCE Kona N), and the full-size Palisade family SUV.
The i30 Sedan compact car (including the full N model) is listed as having “restrictions” on sensor key manufacture in the document distributed to dealers at the beginning of September, while the Kona range, Tucson, and Santa Fe all have limited sunroof availability.
Additional delays for the Tucson’s 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, the Santa Fe’s 3.5-liter gasoline V6, and the Kona Electric’s battery packs are also noted in the document. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicle is not on the list since Hyundai Australia sells it directly on its website.
